Role Overview

Attendance and Pastoral Support Officer responsible for supporting attendance and pastoral welfare of pupils to ensure young people, especially those facing attendance challenges, receive the best possible education and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer support to the school in relation to attendance and pastoral welfare of pupils to improve attendance and parental engagement.
  • Liaise with families, conduct home visits, organise and deliver drop‑in sessions for parents and carers to optimise attendance.
  • Build relationships with pupils and parents/carers, collaborating with them in school and off‑site.
  • Identify and break down barriers impacting pupil attendance, working under pressure and maintaining a high personal drive.
  • Converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and maintain a good understanding of safeguarding in education.
  • Maintain a calm but firm environment for effective relationships with children and families.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Excellent people skills, calm but firm manner.
  • High level of personal drive and self‑motivation.
  • Well‑organised, able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Competency in ICT and familiarity with school ICT systems desirable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures in education.
  • Ability to speak accurate spoken English and provide advice.

Additional Information

The post is not open to job share. Salary will be paid whole time with retainer adjustments applied during school closure periods in line with the National Joint Council (NJC) Green Book agreement. Offering of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory DBS Enhanced Disclosure.
