The Opportunity
British Transport Police (BTP) have an opportunity for a Forensic Imaging Support Officer to join the Scientific Support Unit.
As a Forensic Imaging Support Officer with BTP, you will support the forensic recovery, enhancement and presentation of digital and analogue media to the highest evidential standards.
This is a foundation role designed for individuals with limited or no experience in live casework involving CCTV or digital media. You will be given the opportunity to build your technical skills, gain hands‑on experience and progress towards becoming a fully trained and competent Forensic Imaging Officer. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting investigations by producing high-quality forensic media outputs that meet strict evidential requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Recovering, processing and enhancing CCTV and digital media to evidential standards.
- Creating evidential packages and court‑ready presentations using specialist software.
- Retrieving CCTV from third‑party systems both on‑site and in‑house.
- Supporting investigations with image enhancement and annotation for volume and serious crime.
- Maintaining accurate case notes and ensuring all work complies with legal and forensic standards, including ISO requirements.
- Providing statements and attending court when needed.
- Keeping systems and records updated in line with Data Protection and FOI legislation.

Desirable
- Knowledge or experience of ISO 17025/FSR Codes and forensic working environments.
- Experience handling police CCTV, digital media formats, video/audio codecs or Adobe software.
- Ability to write clear technical reports and procedures.
- Solid understanding of video and audio codecs, file formats, and video compression technologies and national CCTV processing guidelines.
Additional Information
Attendance at residential/non‑residential courses as required.
Travel across England, Scotland, and Wales may be necessary.
Exposure to unlawful and sometimes disturbing material is expected.
Shift work may include hours between 07:00–21:00 and weekends.
