Job Summary

Dr Manickam & Partners is a small GP practice in Hednesford Health Centre with around 4,000 patients. We are looking for a Medical Receptionist/Administrator to support the reception and administrative team. The post is part‑time (15 hours per week) with flexible hours, working between 8:00 am and 6:30 pm Monday to Friday.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Cover the reception desk, telephones and main reception duties promptly and courteously.
  • Process appointment requests, triage calls, and signpost patients to appropriate services.
  • Action e‑mail, scanning, filing, and electronic record entry in the clinical information system.
  • Process referrals, prescription requests and change‑of‑address updates.
  • Generate online test request forms and respond to test results enquiries.
  • Handle correspondence: copy, fax, email, type, and circulate letters and referrals.
  • Register new patients, explain practice procedures and ensure accurate computer entry.
  • Maintain the reception area and reception premises, ensuring safety and security at close of day.
  • Assist with clinical room organisation and liaise with clinical staff on supported tasks.
  • Attend to additional duties as requested by the Practice Manager or GP partner.

Experience

  • Experience working in a healthcare reception or administrative role.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High empathy, diplomacy, integrity and awareness of patient needs.
  • Desirable: experience in a GP practice.

Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification such as NVQ Level 2, GCSE Grades A‑D (including English and Maths), or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable: qualification to NVQ Level 3.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent keyboard and computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Comfortable communicating via e‑mail.
  • Professional handling of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organisational and telephone etiquette.
  • Initiative and multitasking ability in a busy environment.
  • Problem‑solving and adherence to practice policies.
  • Desirable: knowledge of EMIS Web, Docman, and READ/SNOMED coding.

Contract and Remuneration

  • Role: Permanent, part‑time with flexible working.
  • Salary: Depends on experience.
  • Closing date: 1 June 2026.
