Solution Architect — Bupa
Planned locations: Salford (M50 3SP), Staines (TW18 3DZ) and London (EC2R 7HJ). This is a permanent, full‑time role (37.5 hours per week) with a base salary starting at £73,500 and a 10% bonus plus a competitive benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and integration of IT systems across new acquisitions and site builds.
- Support due diligence activities, including assessing risks, costs and integration requirements.
- Create clear, practical integration designs for infrastructure, applications, networks, identity and core business systems.
- Guide decisions on system migration, consolidation, replacement or retention.
- Support data migration activities, including assessing data quality and risks.
- Develop integration roadmaps that align with wider business plans and dependencies.
- Produce evidence‑based recommendations to support technology and business decisions.
- Document key architectural decisions throughout integration and transition phases.
- Design integration approaches for clinical, operational and corporate systems.
- Assess legacy systems, technical debt and supplier constraints to inform decision‑making.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure and support high‑quality healthcare delivery.
- Work closely with business and technology teams to deliver against strategic goals.
- Translate business needs into practical technology solutions and product backlogs.
- Balance short‑term delivery needs with long‑term strategy and simplification.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Engage with governance processes to ensure solutions meet standards and controls.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect in an architecture role.
- Strong understanding of core IT infrastructure—including networks, telephony and identity & access management.
- Knowledge of healthcare systems (e.g., patient administration or imaging platforms) and experience integrating them with enterprise systems such as HR and finance.
- Experience supporting system integration during acquisitions or new site builds.
- Ability to contribute to due diligence, day‑1 readiness planning and post‑acquisition roadmaps.
- Skilled in designing high‑availability solutions, using recognised approaches such as UML or C4 modelling.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (Azure or GCP), including platform services and workload migration.
- Strong understanding of modern architecture practices—APIs, microservices, cloud‑native design, CI/CD, infrastructure as code.
- Ability to design secure, scalable and resilient solutions that support business growth.
- Comfortable balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term strategy and simplification.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to work across teams and build strong relationships.
