Senior Legal Counsel, Global Data Protection & Privacy

Purpose of the Role
This role is an opportunity to tackle challenging data protection issues arising from cutting‑edge uses of data in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate will join a large and vibrant international community of lawyers who provide practical, focused legal advice supporting Dentsu as it drives sustainable business growth for our clients. The position offers the chance to develop professional and personal skills, take a leading role in the Legal and Compliance team and work alongside senior management as a trusted business advisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for key areas of the business, providing legal and strategic data protection and privacy advice that minimises risk while delivering business opportunities.
- Advise on embedding privacy protections into new and existing global products, including those with AI capabilities, and minimise privacy risks for Dentsu and its clients when taking products to market.
- Act as an escalation point for challenging data protection and privacy matters, negotiating data protection issues within commercial contracts.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, the global data protection office and regional/local legal teams to implement and improve the global data protection legal and compliance programme, creating globally led standards and guidance.
- Monitor and respond to developments in data protection and information security, including new laws, regulations, key judgements and regulatory guidance.
- Advocate the value of privacy advice across the company through training, distribution of privacy thought leadership and general awareness‑raising exercises.
Qualifications & Skills
- Member of a law society or accredited bar organisation, with several years’ post‑qualification experience.
- Data protection lawyer with deep experience and knowledge of applicable laws and best practices.
- Experience advising on emerging technologies within advertising, media or marketing.
- Strong commercial and business acumen, able to compare legal risks against commercial strategy and corporate objectives efficiently.
- Passion for data protection and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and data practices.
