Overview
SLR is looking for an experienced Ecological professional to join our European team at SLR’s Principal or Technical Director grade. Reporting to the Operations Director and working closely with the European Practice Lead for Ecology and Biodiversity, you will lead the day‑to‑day operation of the Midlands region of Ecology professionals, focusing on staff, projects and Health and Safety, ensuring consistency across the team and collaborating with the leadership team. This position can be based from any of our Midlands region offices: Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Stoke or Nottingham, with some travel to other regions to visit offices, attend meetings and collaborate with other Regional Managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day‑to‑day operation of the Midlands region of Ecology professionals, focusing on staff, projects and Health and Safety.
- Manage people, approvals, setting objectives, undertaking appraisals, supporting staff development, recruiting and mentoring the team.
- Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation.
- Resourcing projects: attend weekly/monthly meetings and provide regional updates.
- Provide project leadership for complex, high‑value projects; support and guide Project Managers and Project Directors across their portfolio, ensuring timely delivery.
- Conduct regular meetings with Project Managers and Project Directors concerning their project portfolio.
- Coordinate regional strategy, aligning local priorities with national or corporate targets.
- Represent the business at industry events and within professional networks.
- Travel to other regions to visit offices, attend meetings and collaborate with other Regional Managers.

About You
- Experience in a similar senior ecological role.
- A passion for ecology, delivering high‑quality work and assisting the development of other ecological professionals.
- Substantial ecological experience, ideally within consultancy across all sectors.
- Significant project management and people‑management skills and experience.
- Relevant degree‑level qualification and appropriate level of membership of CIEEM or equivalent.
- Full UK driving licence.
