Working pattern

6‑hour shifts, rota over 7 days inclusive of all bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high quality clerical service to the Maternity reception, facilitating and enhancing the availability of patient information to the Clinical and Administration Team.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide efficient and friendly service to patients, visitors and colleagues, handling enquiries promptly.
  • Enter patient details onto Careflow accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist nursing and midwifery staff to achieve the highest possible standard of patient care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Provide service at reception or by telephone.
  • Liaise with unit staff and hospital security to ensure the safety of mothers and babies.
  • Liaise with wards regarding admissions, transfers and discharges; prepare documentation and enter data onto Careflow.
  • Coordinate and distribute discharges to appropriate health care professionals.
  • Coordinate and track patient notes (requesting, locating, tracking on Filefast, notes transfer/return, orphan filing).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous clerical experience with strong data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and a courteous telephone manner.
  • Proficiency in IT, Microsoft Office, Windows and keyboard skills.
  • Experience using Careflow.
  • Experience working in a reception within a healthcare or acute hospital setting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and a comprehensive filing system.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative.

Skills

  • IT and keyboard skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows.
  • Good interpersonal skills with professionals and the public.
