Torbay Assessment & Intervention Service are currently looking to appoint a Full Time Social Worker. The role is focused on delivering intensive support to families, ensuring the safety and well‑being of children and families within our community.

Responsibilities

As an Associate & Intervention Social Worker you will conduct thorough assessments, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, develop comprehensive intervention plans, identify and address immediate concerns, empower families towards long‑term stability, manage a caseload, and be part of a duty rota. Excellent communication, case‑management, and empathy are required.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated mediation, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to assess situations with clarity and sensitivity and act professionally in crisis situations.
  • Implementation of anti‑discriminatory practice.
  • Mentoring others within ethical and professional standards.
  • Fluency in English.

Essential Knowledge

  • Understanding of the Authority’s activities and partner services relating to children, young people and families.
  • Knowledge of Social Care policies, procedures, Child Care legislation and National Guidance.
  • Awareness of effective management practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of child development, attachment theory, anti‑discriminatory practice, assessment frameworks, social work theory and methods.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Social Work degree qualification (e.g., Dip SW, CQS W, CSS or equivalent).
  • Membership of Social Work England.
  • Continued professional development commitment.
  • Significant post‑qualification experience working with children and families under current legislation.
  • Experience of complex Child Protection cases and court proceedings under the Children’s Act 1989.

Regulated Activity

As a regulated role, an Enhanced Criminal Record Check and a Barred List Check will be required.
