Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist – Patient At Risk & Resus Team

The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.The Patient at Risk & Resuscitation Team (PARRT) operates twenty four hours a day seven days a week and has three main clinical functions. The first is to provide a patient at risk service, where an early warning system prompts referral following patient deterioration. PARRT members then review the patient. The second is to follow up all patients following discharge from critical care to the wards, with focus on complex rehabilitation needs. This includes being clinical lead for therapies such as CPAP and tracheostomy care in non-critical care settings. The third is to respond to all emergency calls, such as trauma calls and 2222 medical emergency calls. The primary aim of the PARRT is to provide timely intervention in order to prevent a patients’ condition deteriorating, and to respond proactively where such deterioration is evident.

Main duties of the job

To liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care across professional boundaries.To undertake nurse led clinical care and to be responsible for excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating nurse-led clinics.To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.To contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.To contribute to training and education within specialist area.To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this in practice through engagement in research activities.To act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.
