About the job

Kent is looking for a Principal Civil Structural Engineer to be based in Woking. The successful candidate will lead and coordinate the production of engineering deliverables, supervise civil/structural engineering teams, and provide progress reporting for projects. The role requires hands‑on engineering tasks, specialist studies, and close liaison with other disciplines to ensure technical excellence.

Skills & Responsibilities

  • Lead civil/structural engineering work, including feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC projects.
  • Technically responsible for all civil/structural engineering work within a project; allocate, supervise and direct preparation of deliverables; conduct complex analyses where required.
  • Develop and implement solutions to technical challenges and communicate effectively with project engineers, management, clients and senior management.
  • Perform specialist reviews and analyses on civil/structural aspects for onshore and offshore projects.
  • Supervise, review and check civil/structural activities, ensuring compliance with the Civil/Structural Design Manual and Kent Management System procedures.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies and raise technical queries; manage change within the project framework.
  • Support construction and fabrication as required, and contribute to multi‑disciplinary design reviews.
  • Prepare and review tender documents, cost estimates and schedules; supervise preparation of civil/structural TDRs.
  • Plan, schedule and resource civil/structural activities, liaising with the group manager for resource allocation.
  • Provide regular project updates and reports to project management and the group manager.
  • Assist procurement for long‑lead items, including technical requisitions, vendor documentation review and technical bid evaluation.
  • Ensure compatibility and compliance with client specifications, promoting cost‑effective improvements within scope.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC on compliance with ISO‑accredited QMS, coordinate internal and client audit requests.
  • Support employee performance development, setting criteria and recommending training.
  • Assist the group manager in maintaining technical competence and quality of delivery across projects.
  • Participate in the recruitment process for civil/structural positions as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer (ICE, IStructE or IMarEST).
  • Relevant experience in onshore/offshore oil & gas or low‑carbon energy transition projects.
  • Hands‑on expertise in onshore civil and structural engineering for industrial and process plants.
  • Hands‑on expertise in offshore structural engineering (platforms, jackets, topsides, wind farms) with service and pre‑service analysis experience.
  • Strong knowledge of civil/structural engineering for both onshore and offshore projects.
  • Experience with consultancy, Pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed design and EPC projects.
  • In‑depth knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes.

Communication

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

  • Experience with consultancy and design project phases (Pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed design, EPC).
  • In‑depth knowledge of applicable international specifications and codes.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software (e.g., STAAD‑Pro, SACS, SESAM, USFOS, ABAQUS).
  • Ability to prepare and review project documents, design reports, and calculation reports.
  • Strong coordination, monitoring and supervisory skills.
