Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and to spend 50% of the working week in the office – Inverness, Perth, Aberdeen, Glasgow.
Salary: £58,100 – £87,100 plus car/car allowance, performance‑related bonus and a range of benefits to support finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
SSEN Transmission has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lead Project Engineer to join our multi‑disciplined engineering team, supporting the development and delivery of our project portfolio ranging in value from £10m to £1bn.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support project teams in the development and delivery of projects across transmission, providing leadership, coordination, and ownership of interfaces between multiple technical disciplines where required.
- Work closely with engineers and managers to identify and mitigate engineering design risks, ensuring appropriate measures are in place for the pre‑construction phase.
- Implement and comply with CDM procedures and practices, and all other regulatory requirements associated with substation and electrical system design.
- Prepare and coordinate design assurance reviews and deliver key project gate documentation as per Large Capital Projects Governance.
- Mentor and support the development of less experienced engineers, building capability within the team, while collaborating with consultants and contractors to enable effective decision‑making.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience of project development within Transmission or a similar industry, through the optioneering and initial design phases, with the ability to develop optimal project solutions, deliver on time, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and support informed decision‑making. Builds positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrable experience of mentoring and coaching others to enable growth within an engineering team.
- Excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and its implications for both assets and projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
- Degree qualified in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or a related engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable.
The role requires a full current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
