Title: Naval Architect Consultant – Dockyard experience
Salary range: £46,000 to £60,000 per annum depending on experience
Location: Bristol, Glasgow, Plymouth or Portsmouth
Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid – office and home. Closing Date: 17th July 2026
Role Description
You are invited to join our Marine Technology Group as a Naval Architect. The role focuses on delivering technical consultancy projects with a dockyard support emphasis and on generating new business opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering, design, guidance and support to clients in defence and commercial marine sectors.
- Manage and deliver technical projects.
- Leverage network and contacts to identify and engage potential clients.
- Support Business Managers in developing and implementing strategies to expand client base and increase project opportunities.
- Align business development efforts with the expertise of the naval architecture team.
- Lead the entire sales cycle from prospecting to contract negotiation.
- Stay current on industry trends, market conditions and competitors to identify new opportunities.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences and trade shows.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications to develop targeted promotional materials.
- Provide regular reports on business development activities, market insights and client feedback.
What you will achieve in the next 12 months
- Deliver solutions to technical challenges for defence and commercial customers.
- Develop and own relationships with key staff in the commercial marine industry.
- Support team growth with new lines of technical work outside core customers.
- Help define support needs using commercial experience and technical expertise.
- Mentor younger engineers.
- Prepare commercial solutions and proposals.
- Produce high‑quality work for customers.
- Provide strategic input to shape business direction.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience as an engineer supporting dockyard projects (ship refit or dockyard infrastructure).
- Network of industry contacts to generate business opportunities.
- Strong understanding of naval architecture principles, ship design and marine engineering.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Self‑motivated, goal‑oriented and able to work independently and in a team.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
