My client, a bespoke MEP and Sustainability Consultancy based in Preston, is searching for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly team in Manchester (or Preston).
This is a hybrid role, offering varied projects spanning healthcare, defence, education and Local Authority projects. This opportunity is available with a market leading Consultancy who specialise in sustainable builds and building compliance.
Responsibilities
- Complete 2D and 3D models, perform heat load calculations, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection using relevant software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, IES, Open Buildings or Elite).
- Prepare and review mechanical drawings, schematics, simulations and technical specifications in accordance with building codes, sustainability goals, and project requirements.
- Design to BIM level 2 in accordance with British Standards PAS 1192–5.
- Collaborate with electrical, plumbing, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated MEP layouts and avoid design clashes.
- Attend internal and client meetings to resolve design issues/queries and align project objectives.
- Review designs submitted by the team and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
- Conduct site visits to monitor installation quality, verify compliance with original designs and highlight issues during construction.
- Evaluate new materials and designs ensuring energy efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.

Qualifications
- BSc and/or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Experience working for a UK-based Consultancy completing detailed HVAC designs for healthcare schemes. Design experience for commercial, residential and educational developments is also a bonus.
- Detailed knowledge of PAS 1192–5 and other relevant codes, BREEAM and Net Zero.
- Valid UK driving licence.
