About The Role

Introduction

The Transport planning team delivers better experiences for passengers, residents and businesses, improving connectivity. The role requires building alliances across council departments and external agencies, leading intelligence‑driven investment decisions for DfT funding streams.

The Role

You will play a key role in shaping how people move around Herefordshire, delivering transport and active travel initiatives that benefit residents, businesses and visitors.

What will you be doing?

  • Lead the delivery of the integrated transport elements of the Local Transport Plan.
  • Drive the Local Cycling, Walking and Wheeling Infrastructure Plan (LCWWIP).
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities, and develop successful bids.
  • Work closely with partners such as Active Travel England, local stakeholders, and community groups.
  • Commission and manage projects and consultants, ensuring high‑quality delivery and value for money.
  • Provide expert advice to senior officers and elected members.
  • Engage the public and stakeholders to develop transport solutions reflecting local needs.
  • Support and guide colleagues for a positive team environment.

About You

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) and a relevant professional qualification in transport, planning or a related field.
  • Experience in transport planning, policy development or active travel delivery.
  • A good understanding of national transport policy and funding opportunities.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets and external consultants.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to analyse information and turn ideas into practical solutions.
  • A collaborative and supportive approach to working with colleagues and partners.
