Job Description:

Role Purpose

To enforce parking regulations for both on and off‑street parking places and assist the public with minor parking enquiries and enforcement matters to ensure safe use of highways and car parks within the Borough.

Main Responsibilities

  • Patrol public highways, council‑owned streets, and off‑street car parks in shift patterns between 07:00 and 23:59, 7 days a week.
  • Sign for all issued equipment and confirm it is in working order at the start of each patrol.
  • Enforce decriminalised parking in accordance with relevant legislation, including issuing penalty charge notices with handheld equipment.
  • Provide affidavits or attend hearings as a witness as part of the adjudication service.
  • Check parking machines on site and use a digital camera to record contraventions.
  • Drive a council vehicle when required, including a moped after training.
  • Assist in maintenance of lines, signs, car parks and other equipment, reporting defects, making them safe or notifying the public of malfunctions.
  • Support the car parking service in areas such as mechanical or power failure, abnormal usage during events, emergency handling, and gathering parking survey information.
  • Act as relief for other parking officers, cashiers, or posts within the car parking service, with training where appropriate.
  • Report criminal activity, suspected stolen or abandoned vehicles, and other relevant information to the Authority during patrols.
  • Undertake duties and training commensurate with the grade of the post and comply with all council policies, standing orders, and statutory requirements including the Equality Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, and Data Protection Act.

Experience & Qualifications

  • No formal educational qualification required, but you must be able to write brief reports and accurately record information relevant to possible prosecution.
  • Must hold a valid UK manual driving licence.

Commitment & Work Hours

Commit to delivering high‑standard enforcement and customer service with a flexible approach to working hours, covering the rota between 07:00 and 23:59.
