About the team

Transpower’s Application Services team, in our award‑winning ICT division (Innovation award), helps ensure that electricity is delivered to all New Zealanders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by maintaining and evolving complex critical IT systems. The business domain we work within ensures there are always new and interesting challenges to tackle and that the work we do matters – electricity is essential to our economy, our health system and the wellbeing of our citizens.

Our applications landscape includes various systems of record such as Market Systems, SCADA, Transmission applications, Core Finance, Asset Management, HR systems and key systems of engagement such as Customer channel applications (CRM, customer portal), B2B integration and mobile applications. Application Services works under guidance of Strategy and Architecture to deliver products in accordance with enterprise standards.

The IT systems we have built and operate are a key part of the on‑going planning, maintenance, management and real‑time operations of the national electricity grid infrastructure and the electricity market.

About the opportunity

As Senior Platform Engineer, you will work across development and operations teams, leading platform‑related activities across the design, development, configuration, maintenance, and support of solutions delivered through projects and day‑to‑day operations.

You will bring strong DevOps practice expertise across system set‑up, configuration, automation, and tool maintenance, building on the team’s existing delivery toolchain and helping deliver stable, highly available platforms across both Linux and Windows environments.

About you

You will be a customer‑focused Platform Engineer with experience across software development, system administration, and/or system operations in complex environments.   • Have experience maintaining and enhancing application platforms and management tools in complex enterprise environments.
  • Bring strong automation, scripting, and configuration management capability across build, integration, deployment, monitoring, and support activities.
  • Have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, and can lead technical activities to resolve complex issues and improve platform performance and reliability.
  • Work collaboratively across teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and proactively support the development of others through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Essential technology experience includes Linux (RHEL) and Windows, alongside hands‑on experience with automation, monitoring, and platform tooling such as:

  • Ansible
  • OMD Labs Naemon
  • Kafka, Keycloak
