Position Overview
Position: Staff Software Engineer (Customer Facing Tools).
Location: Cardiff, UK. Hybrid: Two remote days per week.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain enterprise‑scale device management solution for physical access devices (RFID, Biometric readers).
- Integrate with complex software packages and cloud services.
- Write secure software and perform unit, integration and build tests.
- Develop integrations to devices using protocols such as MQTT, Serial, Bluetooth, NFC, UDP, TCP/IP.
- Build REST APIs and WebSocket communication; optionally use gRPC.
- Collaborate across multinational teams and communicate in English.
- Self‑learn industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications
- 7+ years professional software development.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
- Experience with relational database design, Hibernate ORM.
- Experience in developing networked applications.
- Knowledge of secure software development lifecycle.
- Desirable: Python programming, cryptographic algorithms, RFID technology (e.g., NXP Mifare Desfire).
- Experience writing integrations over MQTT, Serial, Bluetooth, NFC, UDP, TCP/IP.
- Experience building REST APIs, WebSocket, gRPC.
Work Requirements
Compliance with HID Global policies on quality, security, safety, business continuity and environmental systems. International travel may be required; possession of a valid passport. Must be legally eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
