Responsibilities
- Lead firmware development and deliver firmware projects to agreed time, cost and quality
- Verify firmware using Hardware Verification Languages or Hardware Description languages
- Design firmware using Hardware Description Languages
- Enhance firmware‑related processes (documenting, scripting, reporting, process automation)
- Work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams
- Lead firmware design and architecture
- Develop verification test bench architecture with System Verilog or C++
- Apply verification methodology such as Advanced VHDL verification or OSVVM/UVVM
- Manage requirements using IBM Rational DOORS
- Simulate designs with Mentor Graphics ModelSim / Questasim
- Design digital electronic hardware in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog
- Implement complex designs using vendor‑specific development tools
- Use technologies such as PCIe, Ethernet, Serial Communications, AXI4
- Apply object‑oriented design techniques
- Develop image‑processing techniques and algorithms
- Create algorithms using MATLAB
Qualifications
- Relevant degree (BEng, MEng, EngD, PhD) or equivalent with membership or fellowship of a professional engineering body, preferably chartered status or working toward it
- Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing
- Experience in safety‑critical firmware environments; defence experience is advantageous but not required
- Experience interfacing with external customers and internal stakeholders, having held responsibility for firmware development within complex systems
- Proficiency in hardware verification and simulation tools
Security Clearance
This role requires SC clearance. If you do not currently hold clearance you must undergo, achieve and maintain SC clearance. For guidance on eligibility see the UKSV website.
