Salary: £52,000 – £53,000 plus on‑call allowance (~£3,000) and overtime
Working Pattern: Monday‑Friday, 8:00am‑4:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
Holidays: 33 days inclusive of bank holidays.
Overview
We are looking for a Senior Utilities Technician to lead critical operations in a fast‑paced, rewarding environment at Stanlow. The role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in industrial boilers and utilities.
Purpose of the Role
- Manage and optimise all utilities operations, including industrial boilers, energy back‑up systems, water treatment, cooling towers, compressors, and nitrogen.
- Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation while maintaining compliance with PSSR, SEPA, HASWA, & ACOP L8 (Legionella) requirements.
- Lead utilities strategy, drive improvements, and monitor performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily maintenance checks on boilers, cooling towers, chillers, air compressors, and nitrogen systems.
- Identify and implement reliability, safety, and efficiency improvements.
- Oversee projects from initiation to completion, taking full ownership and accountability.
- Monitor, trend, and report utility performance to pre‑empt potential issues.
- Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all utility systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Manage service providers and clarify scopes and contracts.
- Plan and coordinate labour and resources to meet operational demands.
Day‑to‑Day Activities
- Collaborate with the team to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections and identify improvement areas.
- Lead and manage projects, ensuring timely and budget‑conscious completion.
- Work closely with service providers to maintain compliance and optimise performance.
- Provide training and support to operational and maintenance personnel.
- Report directly to the Mechanical Team Leader.
Qualifications
- 5‑10 years of hands‑on experience with industrial boilers in oil, gas, or chemical industry.
- BOAS certification or willingness to achieve it.
- Strong knowledge of water treatment systems, testing, and chemical dosing.
- Experience with cooling towers, compressors, and CAPEX projects (desirable).
- Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., Ultimo) and critical spares management (desirable).
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
- IOSH/NEBOSH certification in workplace safety (preferred).
