You will lead the structured discovery of legacy finance and matter data, assess its quality and structure, and play an instrumental role in the migration process that follows.
Responsibilities
- Own the data discovery process across legacy finance and matter systems, profiling data volume, quality, completeness, and structure
- Get a true understanding of legacy database schemas across practice management, case management, and finance platforms, producing field‑level mapping documentation
- Write SQL queries to extract, profile, and validate data from source systems, turning raw data into structured discovery outputs
- Surface data quality issues, retention risks, and anomalies early
- Contribute to the data migration, working across extraction, transformation, validation, and post‑migration reconciliation
- Translate complex data findings into clear, well‑structured outputs, for discovery reports or exception logs
- Contribute to migration runbooks, test scripts, and acceptance criteria
- Build and maintain MI dashboards
Requirements
- At least three years in a data analyst or data migration role, with exposure to complex, multi‑system environments
- Solid SQL capability, with the confidence to write queries against unfamiliar schemas, extract and profile data at volume
- A proven track record in data discovery and quality assessment, with the ability to identify and categorise issues at scale and communicate findings in a way that drives action
- Understanding of the data migration lifecycle, from extraction and transformation through to loading, reconciliation, and acceptance testing
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex data findings clearly to non‑technical audiences
- Experience producing high‑quality data documentation, including data dictionaries, field mapping matrices, and quality exception logs
- Resilience and resourcefulness when faced with legacy data that is incomplete, inconsistently structured, or poorly documented
What Would Set You Apart
- Hands‑on familiarity with legal practice management or case management systems, for example Aderant Expert, SOS Connect, Partner for Windows, ProClaim, Linetime Liberate, or VisualFiles.
- SQL skills, including the ability to interrogate unfamiliar schemas, write profiling and extraction queries, and support transformation and field‑level mapping; exposure to scripting languages such as Python for data preparation and automation
- An appreciation of the data retention obligations and regulatory considerations that apply to legal sector data, particularly client matter records and financial information, and how these affect migration scoping and decision‑making
- Prior experience working within a structured programme or project delivery environment, with an understanding of how data workstreams fit into a broader delivery lifecycle
