What the job involves
- This role focuses on one-off integrations, bespoke customer solutions, internal engineering projects, and short‑notice disruptive work that must be delivered quickly and safely without impacting core product delivery
- The Project Engineer will work closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware, RF, Embedded Software, Applications Software, and Production teams
- This role will complement the day‑to‑day core product development by absorbing and containing non‑standard work and providing surge capacity at critical phases
- Typical projects include integration of RF receivers into payloads for manned and unmanned platforms (e.g. drones and vehicles), internal tooling or platform adaptations, and customer‑specific deployments
- The role requires strong hands‑on engineering capability, sound system judgement, and effective customer interaction
- End‑to‑End Project Delivery: Lead bespoke internal and customer projects from initial scoping and feasibility through to integration, testing, and final handover
- RF System Integration: Direct the integration of RF payloads into manned and unmanned platforms (drones/vehicles), ensuring systems meet performance and regulatory standards
- Power Distribution Design: Design and optimise robust power solutions for RF and DF equipment, verifying performance and safety under representative operating conditions
- Agile Engineering Support: Provide “surge” assistance to Systems Pods during peak phases, including system bring‑up, debugging, and unblocking prototype builds
- Stakeholder Engagement: Capture customer requirements directly, provide technical consultation, and manage expectations through site visits, surveys, and demonstrations
- Compliance & Qualification: Oversee environmental and EMC assessment activities, troubleshooting EMI issues in accordance with industry standards (e.g., MIL‑STD, DEF‑STAN)
- Technical Documentation: Produce fit‑for‑purpose records, including integration notes and test results, to ensure seamless project handover without excessive overhead
- Technical Expertise: Utilize a degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) and proficiency in prototyping, RF test equipment, and CAD software (SolidWorks)
- Operational Readiness: Demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills in fast‑paced environments while maintaining (or being eligible for) SC Clearance
