Group Finance Sustainability Accounting Trainee

Reporting to the Group Finance Sustainability Account Lead, you will support the Group’s ESG reporting process through consolidation and verification of data, contributing to the production of internal and external reports, whilst developing knowledge and skills through structured training.

The role plays a key part in ensuring Group reporting deadlines are met by building relationships with key stakeholders through our customer‑focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection, validation, and consolidation of ESG and GHG data across Group functions and divisions.
  • Support internal verification activities by gathering evidence, preparing schedules, and reconciling datasets.
  • Assist the Sustainability Accounting Lead with external audit requests.
  • Help update and improve templates for divisional data submissions.
  • Support in the development of sustainability dashboards in Power BI.
  • Deliver sustainability reporting in subsidiary and joint venture financial statements.

Undertake structured training on ESG frameworks, audit processes, and carbon accounting.

Qualifications

  • You will need a 2:2 degree, equivalent or higher qualification; preferably in a numerical or data‑focused subject.
  • Demonstrate an interest in data collection and analysis, especially relating to ESG reporting.
  • Able to produce a high standard of written work and accurate numerical work.
  • Self‑confident, articulate, resilient and able to thrive under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A lateral and innovative thinker; sees change as an opportunity and challenge for the business.
  • Able to work on own initiative, with the drive to take ownership of tasks and projects.
  • Strong communication skills, the ability to build effective and mutually beneficial working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Displays energy and enthusiasm to deliver goals and achievements.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel required, and knowledge of Power BI preferable.
