The DataCenter Service / Datacenter Cloud System (DCS) team sits within TikTok’s global technology structure and supports the company’s fast growth by building and operating hyper‑scale datacenters, managing the life cycle of server fleet, providing cloud solutions, and developing various infrastructure services, ensuring scalability and reliability.
Role Insight
The Global Data Center Infrastructure Technology Expert is a regional field engineering authority supporting hyperscale data center operations across EMEA. The role acts as the technical SME for critical mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems within live production environments. It ensures safe, reliable, and highly available infrastructure through strong field engineering expertise, fault resolution, vendor governance, and operational readiness support. The position bridges construction, commissioning, and live operations, ensuring smooth transition into steady‑state operations and continuous improvement across hyperscale data center facilities.
Responsibilities
- Act as regional SME for mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems across hyperscale data center environments.
- Provide field engineering support to operations teams to maintain high availability, safety, and operational stability.
- Review design and construction deliverables to ensure field operability, maintainability, and compliance with hyperscale standards.
- Lead fault investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of permanent corrective actions for critical infrastructure issues.
- Support operational readiness activities, including commissioning handover and transition into live production environments.
- Perform technical audits, risk assessments, and lifecycle evaluations of critical infrastructure assets.
- Manage vendor performance to ensure safe, compliant, and high‑quality delivery of maintenance and infrastructure works.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or Building Services Engineering.
- 4+ years’ experience in data centers or other critical environments (field engineering, operations, or facilities).
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of UPS, generators, LV/HV distribution, cooling systems, fire/life safety, and BMS.
- Experience working in live production environments with responsibility for uptime and operational performance.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Experience supporting vendors, contractors, or field service teams in mission‑critical environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident response, and root cause analysis capability.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data centers or critical environments with increasing technical responsibility.
- Experience with commissioning processes (L1–L5), integrated systems testing, and operational acceptance.
- Apprenticeship or technical trade background in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- Certifications such as CIBSE, ASHRAE, BSRIA, Uptime Institute, or equivalent.
- Prior Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or equivalent electrical safety authorization, preferably in hyperscale, cloud, or large‑scale colocation data centers.
- Strong understanding of construction‑to‑operations transition, RIBA stages, and field engineering assurance.
- Experience in asset lifecycle management, reliability engineering, or failure reduction programs.
