Foster Care Associates (The FCA) was founded in 1994 by a former foster parent and social worker. We operate from Sheffield and are part of the Polaris Community, a leading group of children’s service providers across the UK.

Referrals Officer – Foster care
Location: Office-based – Sheffield
Salary: £23,535.26 per annum
Contract: Full time, permanent
Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave (increasing to 35 days with length of service) plus bank holidays, company pension, life assurance (x2), employee discount scheme, medical cash plan, and free parking.
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact between local authorities, foster families, and social workers.
- Manage referrals received from local authorities and apply matching criteria to ensure placements are carefully matched to children’s needs.
- Use initiative to work independently and find creative solutions to foster placement requests.
- Develop positive relationships with colleagues within and outside the agency, through written and face‑to‑face communication.
- Maintain accurate records and provide excellent administrative support.
Qualifications
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Passion and motivation to make a difference to the lives of children and families.
- Previous experience working in a children’s services sector is an advantage but not essential.
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently.

Full induction into the role and training will be provided.
