Job Description:

The post holder will be a motivated registered nurse who, with support from senior colleagues, will deliver high quality occupational health nursing care, providing specialist advice and clinical services to the managers and staff of Wye Valley Trust and external clients.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of clients’ needs.

To assist in the development and implementation of occupational health policies and procedures. To promote evidence-based practice for client care and act as a role model.

Work in conjunction with other disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of service provision to ensure the client pathway through the Occupational Health service is effective and timely.

To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in developing an environment that supports the values of occupational health nursing
  • Communicates sensitive, confidential information to clients, requiring empathy, persuasion and reassurance
  • To take responsibility for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of service users
  • To liaise and communicate with members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of care/treatment plans.
  • To be aware of and demonstrate practice, based on current guidance.
  • To act as an advocate for clients and their significant others.
  • To maintain accurate records and standards for documentation as per NMC guidance and Wye Valley Trust policy, including IT, emails and data collection/input.
  • Successfully complete all appropriate mandatory training and additional training specific for the role.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
  • Take a proactive role in the management of risk. i.e., risk assessments, reporting incidents and near misses
  • Assuming all reasonable precautions for a safe and secure environment for self and others in accordance with Health and Safety legislation reporting any areas of concern to the Nurse in Charge

Person Specification

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered General Nurse Level 1
  • Educated to degree level or possess the appropriate qualifications to support the demands of the post or equivalent level of demonstrable knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of management and a range administrative process

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with vaccination administration
  • Venepuncture
  • Experience of working in occupational health
  • Knowledge of G2 or other Occupational Health Systems
  • Experience in health surveillance programmes
  • Occupational Health qualification or willingness to undertake training

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to communicate and manage relationships at all levels and demonstrate a responsible attitude and behaviour
  • Positive and flexible approach to work and the needs of the service
