Role Overview

The Band 5 Haematology Nurse will provide high‑quality patient care within both the inpatient and day‑case haematology settings. The post‑holder will develop their clinical skills and knowledge across the specialty and will be supported to become competent in caring for acutely unwell patients, administering complex chemotherapy regimens, and using relevant scheduling and documentation systems such as Bookwise.

You will contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the day‑case unit and inpatient areas by working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure safe practice, effective communication, and a positive patient experience. As confidence and competence grow, the nurse will be expected to take responsibility for coordinating patient care activities during shifts.

  • Carry out thorough patient assessments and respond promptly to clinical changes.
  • Support patients through diagnostic procedures and offer clear education on conditions and treatment plans.
  • Promote safe infection‑prevention practices.
  • Coordinate seamless care across inpatient and outpatient settings, maintain high‑quality clinical documentation and contribute to ongoing service development.
  • Support the ward or unit manager and senior nursing team by maintaining high standards of care, participating in clinical audits, adhering to evidence‑based practice and engaging in supervision and teaching.
  • Act as a role model in delivering compassionate, patient‑centred, evidence‑based care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
