About the role
Environmental Adviser supporting environmental controls and mitigations for a major transmission project spanning approximately 80 km across the Scottish Highlands, based primarily in Alness, Scotland. Reports to the Environmental Lead within the HSESQ team and works onsite to ensure minimal environmental impact.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of UIPT&D’s environmental strategy and standards.
- Provide technical support to facilitate the Contract Environmental Management Plan and enforce HSSE policy obligations.
- Identify, interpret and communicate legal, industry and contractual environmental obligations to the project and its contractors.
- Develop and deliver training on key environmental aspects to increase awareness across the business.
- Collaborate with assurance teams to conduct environmental inspections and audits as required.
- Work closely with environmental technical contractors (Ecology & Archaeology) on site.
- Provide advice on peat management, water management, species protection and other environmental constraints.
- Report and investigate environmental incidents and monitor trends to mitigate future risks.
- Coordinate with the Environmental Lead on site activities, controls, alerts and overall compliance.
Qualifications
- Relevant environmental discipline qualification (degree or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Environmental Charter of Works (ECoW) or Environmental Adviser on similar construction projects.
- Professional membership of an environmental body (desirable).
- Strong analytical and data‑interpretation skills for environmental performance.
- Experience in environmental monitoring, reporting and authoring management processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of UK/Scottish consenting and environmental legislation.
- Experience in environmental inspection and auditing.
- Valid driving licence.
- Excellent communication and literacy skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
