Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineer to support a mixed product manufacturing environment. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs, and installation work on manufacturing plant and production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The role offers opportunities for ongoing training, skill development, and involvement in continuous improvement projects within a supportive engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high‑quality proactive and reactive maintenance service to Operations.
  • Support the installation of new equipment and processes, and process, layout and location changes.
  • Maintain workshop area and spares availability to ensure minimum downtime.
  • Operate and periodically inspect key systems including dust extraction (with spark suppression), LEV testing, compressed air, and electrical installations in the factory space.
  • Investigate improvements and provide in‑house modifications to existing equipment to improve safety, quality, capacity and reliability.
  • Evaluate new or alternative vendors for consumables, piping, belts, etc.
  • Engage in problem‑solving and lean techniques, identify root cause, conduct structured investigations with analysis, and implement corrective countermeasures.
  • Complete all necessary documentation for jobs carried out, both paper and electronic, reporting clearly and concisely.
  • Be responsible for contractors performing maintenance and repair tasks, including site inductions.

Compliance, Environment & Health & Safety

Maintain knowledge of and comply with the latest regulations, HSE guidance and Approved Codes of Practice (ACOP). Work within the company’s health, safety, quality and environmental management systems and compliance regulations. Create and periodically update risk assessments, PUWER assessments and SSOW relating to maintenance tasks, manufacturing equipment or production processes.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Formal qualification in Electromechanical engineering or a similar subject (e.g., City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Strong, demonstrable experience of reactive and proactive maintenance.
  • Process improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of 3‑phase equipment, machinery and systems.
  • Competence with business processes and tools, using appropriate electronic systems and IT packages.
  • Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing.
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage challenging interactions fairly and respectfully in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred:

  • Wiring Regulations City & Guilds 2382 (to latest edition) or equivalent.
  • Equipment installation familiarity.
  • Knowledge and application of LOLER and work‑at‑height regulations.
  • Understanding of 5S and lean initiatives.
  • Experience with PUWER regulations.
  • Comfortable communicating information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with a range of internal customers.
