Senior Heritage Consultant

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Heritage Consultant to join our expanding Archaeology & Heritage team, delivering projects across a wide range of sectors including renewables, infrastructure, regeneration and development. This role offers flexible, hybrid working, with a preference for Bristol, Cardiff, London or Southampton. You’ll play a key role in delivering and growing SLR’s heritage services, leading a portfolio of projects while supporting the development of our regional presence.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and delivering a range of historic environment and heritage projects.
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and client relationships.
  • Providing expert advice on heritage constraints and opportunities to inform design and planning.
  • Preparing high‑quality heritage reports, including Desk‑Based Assessments and ES chapters.
  • Designing and managing archaeological investigations and mitigation strategies.
  • Supporting business development, including proposals and client engagement.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Working closely with colleagues across planning, environmental and engineering disciplines on complex and rewarding projects, with opportunities to contribute to the team’s strategic growth.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience delivering UK heritage or archaeological projects across a range of sectors.
  • Strong understanding of UK planning policy, heritage legislation and guidance.
  • Proven project management and client‑facing experience, including financial oversight.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and managing desk‑based and field investigations.
  • A relevant heritage, archaeology or related degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • A proactive approach to business development and collaborative working.
