Role Summary
Learning Support Assistant to work within a secondary school setting in Taunton, supporting students aged 11‑16. Students may have SEMH, SCLN, EHCP or additional needs.
This role can be challenging at times; students may present behaviours that require patience, consistency and strong behaviour management skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic and pastoral support to help students overcome barriers to learning.
- Support teachers in the classroom and adapt resources for all students.
- Collaborate with teaching and support staff to share strategies.
- Support the school’s behaviour policy and respond to challenging behaviour.
- Encourage positive choices regarding behaviour, attendance, and social interaction.
- Support communication between school and families to promote engagement.
- Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies.
- Assist with monitoring and recording student progress, wellbeing and engagement.
- Promote high expectations and contribute to a positive and inclusive culture.
- Support whole‑school systems such as rewards and behaviour management.
- Encourage students to develop socially, emotionally, and culturally within the wider school environment.
- Be aware of individual student needs and communicate effectively to relevant staff.
Qualifications
Previous experience working with young people with additional needs, either in a school or similar setting, is essential.
A DBS on the update service is required.
