Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 10 hrs per week (40hrs in a 4 week period)

Days / Hours: Flexible to be discussed at interview (may include weekend work)

R.O.P: £14.59 per hr

Duties

Provide support and companionship to a young woman who lives with Autism. She stays with her family in the Dalry area. Confidentiality is of utmost importance.

Social Support

Provide support, encouragement and companionship to assist her in accessing the local community, including activities such as bowling, cinema, coffee lunches, and other outings.

Assist with attending drama classes at CentreStage in Kilmarnock and support her interest in TV dramas and soaps.

Assist with a volunteering opportunity with animals, especially cats, and provide necessary support.

Help with personal grooming activities: hair, makeup, and nails.

Support life‑skills development such as shopping, budgeting, meal preparation and cooking.

Qualities

Applicants should be young at heart, friendly, cheery, and easygoing. Calm, supportive, proactive, and encouraging. Reliable, trustworthy, and possess good communication skills. Knowledge of social media is required. Similar interests are beneficial to facilitate conversation about her hobbies.

Training

Oversee medication administration, including prompting and record keeping. Medication training will be provided by the employer.

Experience Required

Experience supporting young adults with Autism is preferred. A good understanding of anxiety and the ability to recognize and respond to its symptoms is required.

Must be a driver with a current driver’s licence, own a vehicle, and have business insurance. Travel allowance is included; mileage costs for work‑related travel will be covered by the employer.

The successful applicant will undergo a new PVG Disclosure (or update), provide two reference contacts, and complete relevant training. A six‑month probationary period applies, with one week’s notice required within that time if the post does not work out.
