We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic One-to-One Learning Support Assistant to join our professional and dedicated team at St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School, Angmering.

Main purpose

The One-to-One Learning Support Assistant will:

  • Work with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of the targeted pupil whilst encouraging independence and inclusion.
  • Promote the pupils’ independence, self-esteem and social inclusion.
  • Give support to pupils, individually or in small groups, so they can access the curriculum, take part in learning, and experience a sense of achievement.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion, high aspirations for all and a therapeutic approach to behaviour.

What You Need to Succeed

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching and learning

  • Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting flexibility and relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase achievement of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Implement the Education, Health, Care Plan (EHCP) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) ensuring the strategies and targets outlined are actively followed.
  • Promote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils (especially those with SEND) in learning and extracurricular activities.
  • Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum, reducing barriers through adjustments and adaptions, aimed at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s Therapeutic Approach Policy.
  • Organise and manage teaching space and resources in consultation with the class teacher to help maintain a stimulating and accessible learning environment with the child’s needs in mind.
  • Observe and evaluate pupil performance, use this to adapt learning and pass observations on to the class teacher.
  • Use assisted technology to advance pupils’ learning and reduce barriers to recording.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties given by the class teacher in support of the pupil or small group.
