Building Services Technician (Plumbing Bias) – Scarborough

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at Scarborough Hospital but must be willing to work at any of the Trust’s sites. Flexible hours of duty are required, and the role will involve undertaking appropriate training including Health and Safety training.

Key responsibilities include maintaining building services and engineering infrastructure across a range of clinical and non‑clinical facilities. The role is part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team and involves working cooperatively with skilled and semi‑skilled colleagues. The candidate will be required to participate in an on‑call/out of hours rota, for which an additional payment will be made, and transport themselves and equipment throughout the community during normal working hours.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • Completed an accredited trade specific Building Services apprenticeship (3‑4 years) in Carpentry & Joinery, Bricklaying or Plumbing & Heating/Environmental.
  • Current driving licence with less than 12 points in any 3‑year period (for new drivers less than 6 points in the first 2 years).
  • Post‑apprenticeship qualifications in Carpentry & Joinery, Bricklaying and Plumbing & Heating/Environmental to create a multi‑disciplined individual.

Experience

  • Completed further development (typically 2 post‑apprenticeship years) gaining specialist expertise in Building Services and knowledge across a range of technical subjects in a commercial setting.
  • Specialist expertise in Health Service technical subjects enabling the carry‑out of statutory required tasks.
  • Ideally experienced with specialist hospital water and drainage systems.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements related to building services.
