Radiology Support Worker

Job Summary

At Birmingham Children’s Hospital we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly Radiology Imaging Department. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of dedicated and specialised paediatric radiographers and sonographers, supporting imaging examinations for paediatric patients (0-16 years) from the West Midlands and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Work in all imaging modalities (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray, Fluoroscopy).
• Arrange in‑patient appointments and contact relevant wards, informing them of appointment times and patient preparation required for examinations.
• Assist with MRI safety: complete safety questionnaires, advise and prepare patients and carers, and help mitigate claustrophobia with play specialists.
• Support paediatric radiographers and sonographers by providing reassurance, using distraction techniques, and ensuring a positive experience for patients.
• Clean and prepare imaging rooms, maintain stock levels for the department, and contribute to annual stock takes.
• Use the Radiology Information System, Scheduler, and Trust Electronic Patient Systems to ensure accurate data recording.
• Perform daily health and safety checks on oxygen and suction equipment and baby changing facilities.
• Act as a link worker for the department, assisting with manual handling and movement of patients onto imaging beds.
