Behaviour Support Assistant – Leeds

Are you an experienced Behaviour SupportAssistant, SEMH Teaching Assitsant, or Youth Worker looking for a rewarding role in Leeds?

We are recruiting for a specialist provision supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside additional behavioural challenges. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference to pupils who require structure, consistency, and strong, positive role models.

Key Responsibilities – SEMH Teaching Assistant

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Support pupils with challenging behaviour using de-escalation strategies
  • Assist with structured learning activities both inside and outside the classroom
  • Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and coping strategies
  • Support pupils who may have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals
  • Encourage attendance, engagement, and personal development

Requirements – Behaviour Support Assistant

  • Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or vulnerable young people
  • Background in education, youth work, mentoring, care, or support work
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Calm, resilient, and consistent approach
  • Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model
  • Full-time availability (Monday–Friday)
  • Team Teach or MAPA training (desirable but not essential)

  • Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, or Education
  • Individuals with experience in PRUs, alternative provisions, or outreach support
  • Anyone passionate about supporting young people with behavioural and emotional needs
