Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning?

GSL Education are currently seeking caring and enthusiastic SEN Support Assistants to work in schools across Sunderland.

This rewarding role involves supporting students with a range of special educational needs within the classroom and school environment. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored support, helping students engage in learning, build confidence, and develop socially and emotionally.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with special educational needs during lessons and school activities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support where required
  • Assist students with classroom tasks, learning activities, and daily routines
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence
  • Support students’ emotional, social, and academic development
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Assist with implementing personalised support and behaviour plans

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable
  • Calm, patient, and supportive approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs
  • Relevant education, care, or support work experience is beneficial
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
