Maintenance Fitter

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an Estates team that is working closely to ensure statutory compliance and building fabric standards are maintained across all Trust sites.
Responsibilities
The post holder will carry out day‑to‑day repairs, planned maintenance, and improvements to Trust buildings in accordance with statutory regulations and codes of practice, ensuring smooth operations. They will also install, repair, and remove heating and water systems and participate in emergency on‑call duties and cross‑site working as required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating within a multi‑skilled, multi‑discipline maintenance team.
- Using diagnostic and fault‑finding skills, reading technical drawings and manuals.
- Understanding the work of other trades to maintain departmental flexibility.
Qualifications
- A National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 3 or above (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent).
- A qualification in building services is advantageous.
Experience
- Experience in building services maintenance with a demonstrable track record of competence.
- Previous experience in a large acute hospital.
Knowledge
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Knowledge and appreciation of building maintenance issues.
- Understanding of NHS operations and working in clinical areas.
- Knowledge of estates maintenance.
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to plan own workload, be flexible and prioritise tasks.
- Capacity to develop and work effectively in a team.
- Self‑motivation.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Other
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Salary: £28,392 – £31,157 per year plus £5,000 RRP.
