Southampton City Council – Respite Services for Adults with Learning Disabilities
Based in Southampton. Part‑time & Sessional Roles Available.
We’re looking for dynamic, compassionate, and forward‑thinking Support Workers to join our Respite Service – part of our Directly Delivered Services (DDS). This is an opportunity to be part of a team reshaping adult social care in Southampton, focusing on person‑centred, strengths‑based support for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, autism, neurodiversity and complex needs. The service is CQC‑registered and committed to high‑quality care.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your role will be based at Kentish Road Respite Service, supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and neurodiversity. The service provides respite care within a care home environment, ensuring safe, comfortable support. You may also be asked to support across other service areas, so flexibility, adaptability and teamwork are essential.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Support individuals in everyday activities to build confidence and skills.
- Assist with personal care, medication and emotional wellbeing.
- Facilitate engagement with community activities and fulfilling experiences.
- Contribute to care plans, ensuring support is tailored to each person.
- Keep clear records and communicate effectively with families and colleagues.
- Work as part of a team that embraces change, growth and new ideas.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience, or lived experience, supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism or complex needs.
- A Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).
- Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and commitment to equality and inclusion.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, split shifts and lone working when needed.

Salary
Salary band: £26,402 – £28,207. Starting salary: £26,402 with annual progression through the salary bands.
