About The Role

Join our Water Supply team as a Water Supply Process Operator and play a vital role in delivering high-quality drinking water to our customers. This is an excellent opportunity to build a rewarding career in a critical service, with full training provided to help you develop the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed.

Based at Fontburn Water Treatment Works, you will be part of a supportive team while also having the opportunity to contribute to activities across the wider Water Supply operating area when required. We’re looking for someone with transferable skills and a willingness to learn, prior experience in the water industry isn’t essential, as we will support you every step of the way through a comprehensive training programme.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for operating treatment processes using company systems, monitoring performance, and identifying trends to ensure efficiency and compliance. When issues arise, you’ll take a proactive approach to fault‑finding and problem‑solving, helping to maintain the highest standards of water quality. You will also carry out laboratory testing, accurately recording results to meet regulatory requirements and support operational decision‑making.

Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will also involve working with chemicals, as well as validating and calibrating instruments to ensure processes continue to run smoothly. In addition, you’ll support essential site activities, including cleaning process units, carrying out general maintenance tasks, and ensuring tanks and equipment are kept in optimal condition.

About You

Strong communication skills are key to success in this role, and we’re looking for someone who can confidently convey information both verbally and in writing. You’ll be able to clearly explain issues, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and ensure information is shared accurately and efficiently.

You’ll bring a proactive approach to problem‑solving, with the ability to respond quickly when challenges arise, assess the situation, and identify practical, effective solutions. Your ability to think critically and stay calm under pressure will support the smooth running of operations.

May have experience operating production processes including various mechanical and electrical equipment. This may include experience of using instrumentation to validate and calibrate a process is desirable but not essential.

This role has been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
