Role Overview

The Facility Maintenance Technician is a hands‑on, site‑based role responsible for the day‑to‑day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of buildings, utilities, and supporting infrastructure across a modern engineering and manufacturing environment.

The role is critical to keeping the site safe, compliant, and operational, supporting production, engineering and office teams by ensuring facilities issues are resolved quickly and effectively.

This is a practical, delivery‑focused role suited to someone comfortable working across mechanical, basic electrical, and general building maintenance tasks, with strong ownership and a proactive mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance & Reliability

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the site, including:
    • Building fabric (doors, fixtures, flooring, minor repairs)
    • Lighting, basic electrical systems and power outlets
    • Plumbing, water systems and minor drainage issues
    • HVAC interfaces and basic fault reporting
  • Respond promptly to facilities issues that could impact safety, production, or operations
  • Perform regular site walk‑rounds, identify defects, and raise or complete corrective actions
  • Ensure plant rooms, risers, stores and external areas are kept safe and orderly

Preventive Maintenance

  • Support and execute planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules
  • Maintain basic asset registers and maintenance records
  • Assist in building out structured maintenance regimes as sites scale
  • Identify repeat issues and contribute to long‑term fixes, not just short‑term repairs

Contractor Support & Coordination

  • Escort and supervise external contractors on site where required
  • Support permit‑to‑work and contractor safety compliance
  • Ensure contractor works are completed safely, to standard, and documented

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Work in line with all H&S procedures, RAMS, PUWER and site policies
  • Proactively identify hazards and raise safety concerns
  • Maintain safe working practices at all times, including housekeeping and tool control
  • Support audits, inspections and compliance checks when required

General Site Support

  • Assist with basic site moves, layouts and minor fit‑out works
  • Support installation of benches, racking, signage and tooling
  • Help maintain a professional, production‑ready working environment
  • Act as a practical point of contact for day‑to‑day facilities issues

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven hands‑on experience in facilities, building maintenance, or site services
  • Practical skills covering mechanical, basic electrical, plumbing or general maintenance
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and fix issues methodically
  • Strong awareness of health & safety in an industrial or workshop environment
  • Reliable, organised and comfortable working independently

Desirable

  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial facilities
  • Relevant trade background or practical qualification
  • Experience working with PPM schedules or CMMS systems
  • Basic understanding of HVAC, compressors, or utilities infrastructure
  • Forklift, IPAF or similar certifications

Behavioural Profile (What Good Looks Like)

  • Takes ownership of problems and sees them through
  • Practical, calm and solution‑focused under pressure
  • Comfortable supporting multiple teams and priorities
  • Keeps standards high without over‑engineering solutions
  • Communicates clearly and escalates issues appropriately

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a desk‑based facilities admin job
  • Not a purely reactive “call‑out only” role
  • Not contract management or engineering sign‑off authority

This is a hands‑on, sleeves‑rolled‑up site role, fundamental to keeping operations moving.
