Job Overview
Residential Support Worker – Full time, permanent. Salary range: Unqualified £33,349.58; Qualified Level 3/4 up to £35,935.36 (both include sleep‑in shifts). Location: Southampton.
Work Schedule
Shift pattern on rotation: 3‑week rolling rota comprising seven 24‑hour shifts (09:00–09:30 the following day), including sleep‑ins, with one weekend off every three weeks.
Responsibilities
- Provide flexible and individual care packages to children and young adults with emotional behavioural difficulties and social/emotional mental health needs.
- Promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of young people.
- Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the young people.
- Encourage the development of individual interests.
- Work well as part of a small team, accept direction and guidance, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience of working with children and young people in care environments.
- Understanding of issues faced by young people in care, including those with adverse childhood experiences.
- Holding a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma, Children and Young People’s Workforce NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
- Willingness to work towards and upgrade to a Level 4 Diploma.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (role involves traveling).
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for by the employer).
- Desirable experience with Emotional Behavioural Disorder, Social/Residential Work or Youth Work.
