Bradford area, West Yorkshire – approximately 30–40 minutes from the Esholt wastewater site.

Work type

Permanent positions on a 4 on 4 off 40‑hour shift pattern (rotational). The role may require late, early, and weekend work. Out‑of‑hour standby rota will be required after full training. Flexibility and readiness to work in hazardous environments is essential.

About the role

As a field‑based Network Operations Technician you will deliver “first‑time fix” and same‑day solutions to customers and environmental issues, maintain the sewerage network to prevent escapes, and support the asset plan for network maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first‑time fix solutions to customers and the environment while ensuring quality follow‑on work adheres to standards and specifications
  • Set up sites correctly and complete requisite planning and risk assessments (POWRA) before and during jobs to mitigate risks
  • Proactively and reactively maintain the sewerage network to resolve and prevent sewage escapes (flooding and pollution) and ensure no repeats
  • Work closely with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners on site to resolve operational issues on the sewer network
  • Operate various vehicle types as required, depending on work availability
  • Investigate sewerage system issues, prevent repeat customer contacts, and support other operational teams with investigations into sewer asset problems
  • Use IT systems to collate information, relay feedback, and capture evidence, including photographs, plans, and reports of escapes/issues
  • Maintain and install Customer Sewer Alarms on the network and collaborate with third‑party providers when necessary
  • Comply with all health and safety practices and procedures, demonstrating financial awareness in everyday operations and providing technical support and first‑line response to customer contacts
  • Participate in the out‑of‑hour standby rota after full training
  • Work within confined spaces, meeting strict medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, spirometry)
  • Possess a full valid driving licence with no more than 6 points

Skills & Qualifications

  • Practical mindset, comfortable working outdoors in all weather, and hands‑on approach to tasks
  • Previous experience in a customer‑service role with face‑to‑face communication
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships and influence outcomes
  • Prepared to question and report unsafe working practices
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience delivering against challenging business targets
  • Ability to diagnose faults and determine root causes
  • Rational problem‑solving skills and basic IT skills for capturing site information on a Toughbook
  • Flexibility to work a variety of rotas, including out‑of‑hour standby, and willingness to travel (30‑40 minutes to Esholt)
  • Pass medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, spirometry) for confined space work
  • Valid driving licence (no more than 6 points)

  • Previous experience in water or wastewater sectors, broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors, or knowledge of drainage and sewerage systems is advantageous
