LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT VACANCY
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and The Federation Abbey Infant and Junior School are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Learning Support Assistant Level 2 to join our committed and dedicated team.
The successful candidate will work across the school predominantly with children with SEND, providing additional support during lessons as well as at lunchtimes. They should be proactive, show initiative, have a firm but fair approach, and keep the welfare and safety of our children at heart. They may be required to support intimate care needs and toileting.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of NVQ Level 2
- Good general education levels in English and Maths (level 2 at a minimum)
- Experience of working in an educational establishment as a Teaching Assistant
- Experience of supporting children with SEND
- Knowledge of the range of different types of learning difficulties, disabilities and challenging behaviour children may have/display
- Experience of providing support to children with varying challenges
- Ability to adapt to various working environments and children with differing abilities and/or needs
- Experience in creating resources to help the children they are supporting
- Experience in completing and recording observational assessments and contributing to the assessment judgements
Additional requirements: an enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory references are required, and the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is essential for this role. The role is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and will be subject to pre‑employment checks in line with KCSIE.
Job Details
Hours: 12.5 hours per week (12.45pm to 3.15pm – Break not included).Grade: Band B, SCP 4 – £25,185 pro rata (£13.05 per hour) (actual £7,428 per annum), plus a living wage supplement to £13.45 per hour payable from 1st April 2026.
Location: The Federation of Abbey Infant and Junior School, Maurice Road, Smethwick, West Midlands, B67 5LR and Barclay Road, Smethwick, West Midlands, B67 5LT.Contract: Fixed Term, ending 21st July 2027.
