Community Sight Loss Advisor (East Lancashire)

Help people rediscover confidence, independence and connection. For nearly 160 years, Galloways has been supporting people affected by sight loss to live full and independent lives.

We’re now looking for a Community Sight Loss Advisor to support people across East Lancashire, providing practical advice, guidance and encouragement to help individuals navigate life with visual impairment.

This is a role where every conversation matters. You’ll work directly with people in their communities — helping them access support, build confidence and reconnect with the things that matter most to them.

If you’re passionate about supporting people, building community connections and making a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.

The details

Location: Community-based across East Lancashire with an office base at Hyndburn Resource Centre (Cannon Street)

Hours: 18 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £25,971 FTE (with annual pay progression rising to £30,107)

What this role is really about

This role is about supporting people to live well with sight loss.

You’ll be meeting individuals in the community, listening to their needs and helping them access the tools, services and support that allow them to maintain independence and confidence.

Supporting someone to access the right equipment or technology

Connecting someone with local services or community groups

Helping someone build the confidence to try new activities

Providing reassurance and practical guidance following sight loss

Your role is to guide, empower and connect people to the support that helps them move forward.

Working with colleagues to deliver community activities and events

This is a hands‑on community role — you’ll be meeting people, building relationships and helping ensure those affected by sight loss feel supported and connected.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t necessarily need experience working in sight loss, but you do need to be comfortable supporting people and building relationships in the community.

We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience providing information, advice or support to individuals

Has strong communication and interpersonal skills

Can build relationships with community groups and partner organisations

Is organised and able to manage their own workload

Is comfortable working independently in the community
