The Role
We are looking to recruit a Community Mental Health Staff Nurse to work initially in Riverview Resource Centre, Dumbarton Joint Hospital. The post holder will be an integral part of a multi‑disciplinary team and will work in partnership, demonstrating compassionate caring behaviours to fulfil the key functions of the CMHT.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
Permanent, full‑time and part‑time available.
Shift pattern: Post 1 – 37 hours per week; Post 2 – 22.2 hours per week.
Base location – Riverview Resource Centre.
Key Responsibilities
In particular, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment of people referred to the service. The post holder will be involved in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care using a strength‑based recovery‑focused approach to care that proactively involves the person and optimises self‑management.
The post holder is required to undertake duties without direct supervision, working in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals/agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies. This involves working in a variety of home/near‑home community environments.
Participating in regular caseload line management supervision and Clinical Supervision are critical aspects of the role.
Supervising the practice of others, undertaking mentorship/preceptorship responsibilities and contributing to the learning and development of the staff team are important aspects of this role.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
Essential
- Registered Mental Health Nurse Level 1 NMC registration
- Educated to, or actively working towards, minimum degree level / or equivalent
- Working knowledge and application of mental health nursing care (including physical healthcare)
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Evidence of Clinical Supervision / reflective practice
- Working knowledge of mental health / mental illness/wellness and recovery
- Working knowledge of rights, values‑based practice and legislation frameworks
- Evidence of using digital technology/information systems/email and basic applications
- Evidence of key skills and behaviours, including:
- Organisation skills
- Self‑direction and self‑motivation
- Effective written and verbal communication (negotiation, influencing, persuading, facilitating, conflict resolution)
- Decision‑making skills
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritise workload, and adapt to meet person‑centred care needs without direct supervision
- Ability to form therapeutic professional relationships and work as part of a wider team
- Working knowledge and demonstrable evidence of the NMC Code
- Ability to undertake multiple daily clinical contacts in a home or near‑to‑home environment, which may involve driving
Desirable
- Completion of an evidence‑based psychological therapy / psychological approaches to care programme
- Completion of a mentor preparation programme / registered mentor
- CMHN Career Development Framework evidence aligned to pillars of Level 5 practice, including:
- Clinical practice safe, effective, person‑centred care
- Facilitation of learning
- Applied leadership
- Research and development
- Experience of working in a community environment

Equality and Diversity
