About the School
We’re partnering with a pioneering specialist SEND school in Rochdale – a community that deeply believes every young person aged 11‑19 deserves to be the best version of themselves, regardless of the barriers they face. Rooted in inclusive excellence, respect, and a relentless commitment to empowering students with SEND and complex needs, this is a school that inspires. If you share that belief, we want to hear from you.
About the Role
As a Youth Mentor, you’ll work at the heart of a close‑knit team dedicated to empowering some of the most complex and vulnerable young people in the borough. This isn’t a role for the faint‑hearted – it’s for someone who understands that behaviour is communication, that progress isn’t always linear, and that showing up consistently for a young person can be the most powerful intervention of all.
Whether you’re delivering one‑to‑one mentoring, leading group sessions, supporting in the classroom, or helping a student navigate a crisis moment, your impact will be felt every single day.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a mentoring, youth work, behaviour support, or pastoral role – ideally within a SEND, SEMH, or alternative provision setting
- A deep understanding of the challenges faced by young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and solutions‑focused in complex situations
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills across students, families, and professionals
- A creative, energetic approach to engaging young people who may have disengaged from traditional learning
- A background in psychology, social work, youth services, or mental health would be a strong advantage
To Be Eligible You Must
- Hold Right to Work in the UK
- Have an enhanced DBS certificate already on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one
- Provide two professional references from child‑related roles
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
