About the Role
We are seeking a committed and resilient Residential Youth Support Worker to join a dedicated team within a children’s residential home in East Sussex.
Our home provides high-quality, nurturing care for children and young people aged 7-19 who have experienced significant trauma and are unable to live in foster care settings. Some young people may also have learning disabilities or additional complex needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment where young people can heal, develop independence, and achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all residents
- Support young people with emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges
- Build positive relationships with young people, families, and professionals
- Contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and reviews
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
- Support young people in developing life skills and independence
- Plan and participate in activities and community engagement
- Administer and record medication safely (following training)
- Lead shifts when required and support junior or relief staff
- Work flexibly on a rota, including sleep-in duties
Requirements
- Experience working with children and young people (residential care, education, youth work, or similar)
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent – desirable
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- Ability to support young people with emotional, behavioural, and psychological needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people, families, and external agencies
- Emotional resilience and ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly
- Willingness to engage in therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches
