About the Role

We are seeking a committed and resilient Residential Youth Support Worker to join a dedicated team within a children’s residential home in East Sussex.

Our home provides high-quality, nurturing care for children and young people aged 7-19 who have experienced significant trauma and are unable to live in foster care settings. Some young people may also have learning disabilities or additional complex needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment where young people can heal, develop independence, and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all residents
  • Support young people with emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges
  • Build positive relationships with young people, families, and professionals
  • Contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and reviews
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
  • Support young people in developing life skills and independence
  • Plan and participate in activities and community engagement
  • Administer and record medication safely (following training)
  • Lead shifts when required and support junior or relief staff
  • Work flexibly on a rota, including sleep-in duties

Requirements

  • Experience working with children and young people (residential care, education, youth work, or similar)
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent – desirable
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • Ability to support young people with emotional, behavioural, and psychological needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people, families, and external agencies
  • Emotional resilience and ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly
  • Willingness to engage in therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches
