Job Description:

Turn Your Love of the Countryside into a Career That Connects Communities

Do you enjoy the open air, thrive on meeting new people, and have a natural talent for negotiation? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

We’re looking for a confident, personable, and proactive individual to join our Planning team to support us with connecting with landowners and securing access for our innovative, trenchless buried fibre network.

This role offers the best of both worlds: a flexible hybrid setup combining time in our rural Dorset office (just outside the village of Shroton, 5 miles north of Blandford), home working, and regular travel across the region of Somerset to meet with landowners face-to-face.

You don’t need a background in telecoms—just a strong connection to the countryside, a sharp mind, and a passion for building trusted relationships.

What We Offer

  • Up to £35,000 per annum salary, dependent on experience.
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance & income protection.
  • Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
  • Staff broadband discount (75%).
  • High street discounts on 100+ brands.
  • Summer & Christmas team socials.
  • Career development opportunities – Whether you want to lead a team or learn new skills, we’ll support your growth in our fast‑moving business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Engaging with landowners and local communities to introduce our network expansion plans.
  • Explaining the benefits of joining the Wessex Internet model and securing landowner buy‑in.
  • Walking landowners through route proposals, incorporating their feedback, and confirming construction plans.
  • Providing reassurance and answering questions around how network construction may impact their land.
  • Guiding landowners through the legal agreement process to enable construction.
  • Evaluating service maps and land data to identify viable route options.
  • Handing over clearly defined, deliverable route plans to the Planning team.
  • Keeping progress accurately recorded in our central management system.

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent knowledge and awareness of rural environments, farming systems, and landowner concerns.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship‑building skills.
  • A keen sense of spatial awareness and route planning ability.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • A proactive mindset and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Problem‑solving ability with a practical, can‑do attitude.
  • Confident with digital tools and a strong general IT skillset.
  • Familiarity with agricultural and construction equipment would be advantageous.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and help connect rural communities to future‑ready broadband, apply now and be part of something bigger. At Wessex Internet, we’re building more than just networks—we’re building futures.
