Are you a dedicated Primary Teacher with experience supporting autistic pupils? This is a rewarding opportunity to join a specialist provision delivering high quality, autism informed education to KS2 learners.

About the RoleWe are seeking a KS2 Teacher to deliver an engaging, well adapted curriculum to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. Working in small classes, you will use evidence based, autism?informed approaches to support pupils’ academic progress, communication, emotional regulation, independence and wellbeing.

You will play a key role in creating a nurturing, structured environment where pupils feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and assess high quality, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with ASC.
  • Deliver a broad, balanced and appropriately adapted KS2 curriculum.
  • Use autism informed approaches including visual supports, structured teaching, sensory regulation strategies and communication supportive methods.
  • Create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Ensure learning is accessible, motivating and meaningful for all pupils.
  • Use assessment to track progress, inform planning and contribute to EHCP targets and reviews.
  • Support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, independence, social understanding and self?confidence.
  • Implement positive behaviour and regulation strategies aligned with an autism?informed approach.
  • Maintain high expectations for learning, behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to annual reviews, reports, target setting and multi?disciplinary planning.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, pastoral staff and wider teams.
  • Provide clear guidance and direction to support staff in the classroom.
  • Engage in CPD, training and reflective practice, particularly around autism and SEND.
  • Uphold safeguarding, school policies and the Teachers’ Standards.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching KS2 pupils.
  • Significant experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ideally in a specialist or SEND setting.
  • Strong understanding of autism, sensory needs, communication differences, adaptive teaching and EHCP led provision.
  • Ability to create a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Confident using positive, autism informed behaviour and regulation strategies.
  • Strong teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in a specialist SEN or autism provision.
  • Additional SEND or autism specific training.
  • Experience working with non verbal pupils.
  • Experience with therapy led or multi disciplinary approaches.
