A large, inclusive primary school in the M11 area of East Manchester is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their well-established SEND provision. This long-term, full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to work with pupils across EYFS to Year 6 who present with a range of complex needs, including emotional dysregulation, non‑verbal communication, ASD, ADHD, SEMH, sensory needs, behavioural challenges, learning disabilities and other additional needs.
The school has a specialist internal provision designed to support pupils who require a more bespoke and structured approach. They are searching for a calm, resilient, and proactive Behaviour Support Assistant who can help pupils regulate, engage, and thrive within a nurturing and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support as a Behaviour Support Assistant
- Assist pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs and challenging behaviour
- Support children with communication needs, including non‑verbal pupils
- Work closely with the SEND team to deliver tailored strategies and interventions
- Maintain a calm, consistent, safe learning environment as a Behaviour Support Assistant
- Contribute to personalised plans, behaviour reports and daily logs
- Use de‑escalation and positive behaviour strategies confidently
- Support learning both in the provision and, when needed, in the mainstream classroom
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Uphold safeguarding and school policies in all aspects of the role as a Behaviour Support Assistant
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour or SEND
- Strong behaviour management and resilience
- Ability to adapt to different needs across EYFS‑KS2
- Confidence supporting emotional and behavioural regulation
- Commitment to full‑time, long‑term work, Monday to Friday
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Team Teach or equivalent training is highly advantageous
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils as a Behaviour Support Assistant
